PETERSEN MEDIA- A second place finish highlighted a busy weekend with the King of the West Series for Ryan Bernal and Tarlton Motorsports on Friday night at Ocean Speedway during the Pombo-Sargent Classic.

“Friday night was really good, “Bernal said. “I feel like we almost picked one off, so all in all it was a good night. Saturday I felt really good but we knocked the nose wing down early and really didn’t get a chance to mix it up in the feature.”

Starting the weekend off at his home track, Ocean Speedway, the Hollister, CA native timed the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum backed No. 21 machine in seventh quickest in time trials.

Racing to a win in his heat race, Bernal would qualify for the Dash where a sixth place finish placed him in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.

With the Ocean Speedway groomed before the feature, a fast surface early in the race made it tough to get by anyone at first, but Bernal would show the patience to keep himself in striking distance as the surface started to slicken up.

In the closing laps, Bernal would find himself in the second position and hot on the trail of Dominic Scelzi. Giving Scelzi a couple of big challenges for the lead, Bernal came oh so close to pulling off a pass at the flag stand, but would settle for a runner up finish.

Heading to Stockton Dirt Track for more KWS action on Saturday night, Bernal and company opened their night up by turning in the sixth quickest lap in qualifying time trials before collecting a third place finish in heat race action.

Missing out on a Dash berth, Bernal would take the green flag from the 8th starting position in the 25-lap feature event.

On a hooked up and rough Stockton Dirt Track surface, Bernal felt good in the early laps but he would soon be victim of a collapsed nose wing.

Once the nose wing went down, the handle on Bernal’s machine would go away which would be challenging with the track the way that it was.

Doing a great job of making do with what he had, Bernal would hang on to finish sixth.

“Thanks to Paul Baines, and all the guys who work on this thing,” Ryan Bernal said. “We were really good both nights, and I am looking forward to trying again this weekend. Also, I have to thank the Tarlton family for their continued support. I would love to get this car into victory lane for them very soon!”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, NOS Energy Drink, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
