Bittersweet Season Finale for Andy Gregg

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making some changes to his engine program before Saturday night’s Sprint Car Challenge Tour season finale in Stockton, CA, Andy Gregg was extremely pleased with the results, but unfortunately a suspension failure during the ‘B’ main event would end the Placerville, CA driver’s night early.

“We have been fighting this one engine all year, and we made some changes to it leading up to Stockton and it came alive,” Andy Gregg said. “We were on our way to transferring out of the semi, but a rear arm failed with a few laps to go and I did everything I could to stay in the top six, but we slipped back to eighth.”

Checking the GUTS/Angius and Terry LLP/Capitol Ace Hardware backed No. 16 in at Stockton Dirt Track Saturday night, Gregg would time his machine in seventh quickest in his time trial group.

Lining up seventh in his heat race, the Placerville, CA driver would pick up one position and finish sixth, which would force him into the 15-lap ‘B’ Main event for one last chance to advance into the 35-lap feature event.

Gregg would get off to a great start in the semi as he would jump up into the second spot and turn in some really nice laps. Battling with Cody Lamar for the top spot, Gregg would lead the seventh lap but would fall back to second as he and Lamar diced it up.

With five laps to go, Gregg’s entry would noticeably have something wrong with it as the car was laid over the right rear corner would a suspension issue. Holding on as long as he could, Gregg would fall out of a transfer position on the final lap as he would lose several spots and end his night with an eighth place finish.

“I tried everything I could the last few laps,” Gregg said. “Unfortunately I could not hold on long enough and we fell out of a transfer spot. I have to thank everyone who aided me this year in one way or another. It was a total team effort all season long, and I appreciate all who stuck with me. We will go to work this winter and see what we can put together for 2018.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Angius and Terry LLP, Capitol ACE Hardware, Ice House Resort, CTL Forest Management, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Broadband Agreements, Russo Insurance, Kelly Moore Paints, Cal Pro Paint and Construction, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, and MF Inc. for their support in 2017.
