Blake Carrick 2nd at Placerville Speedway’s Season Opener
PETERSEN MEDIA: After enduring his most trying weekend of the season one week ago, Blake Carrick bounced back with a second-place finish on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway one night after charging from 19th to 9that Ocean Speedway.
“It was a pretty good weekend for our team, again,” Blake Carrick said. “Aside from qualifying on Friday night, we had really good speed and made a lot of good things happen.”
Friday night would see Carrick time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38b machine in 17th fastest amongst the 34 cars that we checked in for action.
Starting and finishing fifth in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver would be forced to make a trip to the ‘B’ where a third-place finish would safely transfer him into the 30-lap feature event on what was a very slick surface.
Lining up 17th in the ‘A’, Carrick would do a fantastic job working his way forward on a surface that would soon turn abrasive and ultimately start taking rubber. Able to make some big progress before the rubber really started going down, Carrick would work into the Top-10 before taking the ninth position where he ultimately went on to finish.
Saturday night the scene shifted to Placerville Speedway where Carrick would take part in the track’s regular season opening event, after takin part in last week’s SCCT opener.
With 37 cars packed into the pit area on this night, Carrick would get his night off to a much better start as he ended up second fastest in qualifying time trials.
Going from fourth to third in his heat race, Carrick moved safely into the feature event and also earned a spot in the nightly redraw. Pulling the seven pill, Carrick would grid the field from the fourth row, alongside older brother Tanner.
On a track that had a fair bit of moisture left in it when the 25-lapper came to life, Carrick would do a nice job of navigating his way forward as he found himself up in third when the race’s first caution flew.
Using a lap 12 double file restart to his advantage, Carrick would move into the second position as he chased after Justin Sanders.
A lap 17 restart saw Sanders get called for a jump, and it actually moved Carrick up into the top spot.
Back under green flag conditions, Carrick would lead, however he had his hands full with Sanders attempting to get back by. Trying to keep him at bay, Sanders would get the best of Carrick, and Carrick would close his weekend out with a second-place finish.
“We had a good car, but I knew Justin was better than us,” Carrick said. “I knew he would be coming with some big moves, and I tried to fend him off and counter his sliders, but he was able to keep in front with a couple to go.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
