Blake Carrick 5th at HK Classic Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in both nights of the 10th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic in Watsonville, CA, Blake Carrick would finish fifth during 360 action on Friday night before tallying a 7th place finish with the King of the West Series on Saturday.

“We had really good speed both nights, and we put ourselves in position to pick up two good finishes,” Blake Carrick said.

Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Carrick kicked his weekend off by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38b entry in 13th quickest in time trials, which would place him on the front row of his heat race.

Racing away to the win, Carrick would earn a spot in the Dash where the one pill placed him on the pole. When the race went green, it was deemed Carrick jumped the start and he would get penalized one row.

From his second row starting position, Carrick would finish fourth, which placed him in the second row for the 30-lap feature event.

Form the onset of the feature, Carrick would keep his mount safely inside the Top-5 as he battled in the star-studded field. Surging up to third early in the race, Carrick would actually get as high as second at the race’s halfway point as the leaders raced wheel to wheel in a tight pack.

Falling back to fourth on the 20th lap, a last lap move would see him slip to fifth where he would take the checkered flag.

Dropping the 410ci powerplant in for Saturday’s HK Classic finale, Carrick would get off to a great start as he timed in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Carrick would finish third and just narrowly miss out on a berth into the Dash. Missing out on the Dash, Carrick would line up in the seventh spot on a surface that was slick for much of the night, even after a quick track prep session.

Getting off to a sluggish start, Carrick would slip back to the eighth spot during the opening stanza before getting up to sixth at one point.

With double file restarts shuffling things up at times, and the track taking rubber late, Carrick would find himself back where he started, in seventh, when the checkered flag flew on the feature event.

“A Top-5 and a Top-10 on the weekend is definitely good, but we want to continue to strive for better finishes,” Carrick said. “Thanks to my guys, and looking forward to another busy week.”

Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support

ON TAP: Blake Carrick will be back in Marysville, CA on Wednesday night, potentially in Watsonville, CA on Friday night, back to Placerville, CA on Saturday night at Chico, CA on Sunday.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-20, Wins-1, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-11
