PETERSEN MEDIA: Blake Carrick had a great showing at Ocean Speedway on Friday night as he would race to a fifth place finish one night before going to battle with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Petaluma Speedway.
“It was a really good weekend for us,” Blake Carrick said. “We were really fast at Ocean and Petaluma, but I had a bit of a tear off issue on Saturday and that negated a good finish as I had to pull off.”
Friday night, the Lincoln, CA driver got the night started by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B machine in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Carrick got his elbows up as he surged to the point, and never looked back as he grabbed the win and made his way into the Dash. Starting and finishing fifth, Carrick would then turn his attention to the 30-lap feature event where he would grid the field from the fifth starting position.
When the race came to life, Carrick would make a couple of nice moves to work his way up into third as he was in the mix with the likes of Bud Kaeding. Continuing to run in third, a slight bobble would see Carrick give up a few positions as fell as far back as seventh in the running order.
Once he was able to settle down, and get back into his rhythm, the youngster was able to race his way back up inside the Top-Five as he would close his night out with a fifth place finish.
Heading to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night, Carrick would look to make some noise with the ultra competitive Sprint Car Challenge Tour in what was the series fourth event of the season.
Timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying group, Carrick would finish fifth in heat race action and make his way directly into the 35-lap feature event.
As the night went along, the moisture would return to the Petaluma Speedway surface, and create a fast a rough racing surface for the final race of the night.
Lining up 17th, Carrick would get off to a nice start as he would slowly pick off cars as he approached the Top-10 tip toeing around the tricky surface that was offered up. Carrick would progress nicely as he would race up to the 12th spot
Just a few laps prior to the halfway point, Carrick would have issues with his tear offs, and he would make the smart decision to take his machine back to his trailer and call it a night.
“Moving forward against a tough field of cars like that was good, and I learned a lot on a tricky surface,’ Carrick added. “Looking forward to making my 410ci debut this weekend in Chico, CA.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, and Arai for their continued support
ON TAP: Blake will make his 410ci debut this Friday and Saturday night in Chico, CA. Friday night’s unsanctioned 410ci event will be a nice test for Saturday’s NARC event billed as the Dave Bradway, Jr Memorial.
