Blake Carrick Breaks Through for First Career Sprint Car Win

PETERSEN MEDIA: Flirting with his first career win last Sunday night at Marysville Raceway, Blake Carrick would not be denied on Friday night at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA as he parked in victory lane.

“It feels great to finally get the job done, and get a win for this team,” Blake Carrick said. “My parents, and a lot of great partners do a ton for us, and I am happy to finally get this one out of the way.”

Taking part in Ocean Speedway’s season opener, Carrick got his night started by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed entry in 13th fastest in time trials as he raced against the clock with brake issues.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA product would get the jump and never look back. Racing his way to the win, Carrick stamped his ticket into the Dash where the seven-pill put him in the fourth row.

On a slick Ocean Speedway with a tricky cushion built up, Carrick would show his patience as he worked the bottom groove, and methodically worked his way up to a second-place finish, which put him on the front row of the feature event.

Racing side by side with Montgomery for the first lap, Carrick would get the edge at the flag stand as he officially led lap one. Out in front, Carrick would do a great job as traffic would come into play.

Not flinching, Carrick would continue to hit his marks for all 30-laps as he would go on to pick up the win and score his first ever winged 360 feature event win.

Needing to put Friday’s success away quickly, Carrick would drop the 410ci engine in and make his way to Hanford, CA for Saturday night’s KWS season opener event at Keller Auto Speedway.

Against a loaded field of 29 cars, Carrick timed in 22nd fastest, and put himself in a bit of an early hole.

Racing to a fifth-place finish in his heat, Carrick moved into the feature event where he would grid the field from the 20th starting position. On a tricky surface that was extremely slick due to central valley summer temps, Carrick would again work his way forward methodically.

Able to work his way into the Top-10, Carrick capped the night with a great charge and took the checkered flag with a 10th place finish.

“The guys have really been on their game and have given me a really good car every night out this year, and it has been fun,” Carrick said. “To finally win, and then to back it up with a pretty good hard charge with KWS is good, and we will try to keep it rolling this week.”

Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
