PETERSEN MEDIA: Amidst a busy stretch of racing in Northern California, Blake Carrick is looking forward to a return trip to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the track’s regular season finale after competing in two nights of action at Silver Dollar Speedway.
“We were a lot better than our results showed this past week at Silver Dollar Speedway,” Blake Carrick said. “Wednesday night I worked inside the Top-10 but had a tear off issue that forced me out early, and on Thursday it took rubber early and we couldn’t do much.”
Timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B entry in sixth quickest in his qualifying group on Wednesday night to kick off the Gold Cup Race of Champions, Carrick would pocket a sixth place finish in his heat race on a locked down surface.
Transferring into the ‘A’, Carrick and company would watch the track intently as it continued to take shape for the 30-lap feature event. Lining up 16th, Carrick was able to find a line to his liking on a very racy surface as he worked his way towards the Top-10.
Making some nice moves against some of the regions top drivers, Carrick would find himself up in the eighth position. Getting into eight, Carrick would have helmet problems and in the name of safety, he would make the wise decision to pull off the speedway and forfeit his Top-10 position.
Returning to Silver Dollar Speedway on Thursday night, Carrick would see a polar opposite surface than what was offered up one night prior as it would be very slick early in the racing program.
Timing his Carrick Motorsports car in third fastest in time trials, Carrick would again finish fourth in his heat race and put him 17thin the feature event starting line up.
While track officials tried to save the surface and keep the track from taking rubber, it would be to no avail as the slick surface would return within a few laps and the rubber would soon start to go down.
Able to pick up a few positions, the Lincoln, CA driver capped his two nights of racing at the Gold Cup Race of Champions with a 14thplace finish.
“Like I said, the results weren’t there but we had a ton of speed,” Carrick said. “Thanks to all my guys for their hard work, and I am looking forward to getting up to Placerville Speedway this weekend.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, and Arai for their continued support
