PETERSEN MEDIA: As he continues to progress and make laps in a winged sprint car, Blake Carrick had one of those weekends where he would go to school and learn as he made his first start at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday before returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday.
“We were pretty fast both nights, I just made a couple of mistakes in both features that knocked us out of the Top-10,” Blake Carrick said. “Still learning where I can push my limits, but it was a decent weekend.”
Timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B machine in 16th at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, Carrick would find himself on the front row of his heat race.
Getting the jump, Carrick would look to be well on his way to a heat race win and a prime starting spot in the feature event, but a last lap bobble would see him take the checkered flag in the third position.
Moving into the feature event, the younger of the two Carrick brothers would take the green flag from the 15th starting spot.
In what was his first appearance at the Silver Dollar Speedway in racing action, Carrick was able to work his way forward as he patiently navigated around the north state’s quarter mile.
Working up into the Top-10 by the eighth lap, Carrick would lose the handle on his machine and spin to a stop.
Restarting from the back of the pack, Carrick would slowly pick up a handful of positions, as he scratched and clawed his way to a 14th place finish.
Getting back to a familiar venue on Saturday night, Carrick would check in at Placerville Speedway where there was 28 cars checked into the pit area.
Timing in 13th in time trials, Carrick would find himself on the front row of his heat race. Getting off to a good start a tick to early, Carrick would be penalized a row and would end up starting third.
Finishing fourth, the youngster would move into the 25-lap feature event where he took the green flag from the 14th starting position.
On a very racy track, Carrick would again work his way forward just as he did on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. Using the high side in turns one and two, Carrick would work his way into the top-10 again until the high, scary side of the speedway got the best of him as he got up over the edge of the racing surface and ultimately took his machine back to the trailer on the 23rd lap.
“We will just keep after it, and keep learning and keep racing hard,” Carrick said. “Thanks to my team and all of our sponsors for their support.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, and Arai for their continued support
ON TAP: Blake will be in Watsonville, CA on Friday night and in Petaluma, CA on Saturday night.
