PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night, Blake Carrick would pick up his ninth Top-Five finish of the 2021 season by way of his fifth place run at Petaluma Speedway.
“It was an okay night,” Blake Carrick said. “I didn’t get timed in where I needed to be in my group and that kind of put us in a hole in our heat and the feature.”
Timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying group, Carrick would find himself inside the second row to start his heat race aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B machine.
Racing his way to a second-place finish, Carrick would not make the Dash, but he improved his starting position in the feature as he lined up in the night starting position.
Following a quick track prep session to help add moisture to the extremely slick surface, the work would create some high-speed action at the drop of the green which ultimately led to a near non-stop feature event.
From his ninth starting position, Carrick would slip back to 10th in the early goings before taking back the ninth position at the 11th lap.
As slower traffic quickly became an issue for much of the field, Carrick get up into the eighth position just after the cross-flags were displayed to the field. As the laps clicked off and passing became more opportune, Carrick would inch his way towards the Top-5 until the caution flew on the 33rd lap.
Getting a nice restart, Carrick would pick up a couple of positions as he worked into fifth and held on to the finish inside the Top-5.
“We were in a bit of a hole, but we really got moving at the end of the race,” Carrick said. “Good top five run for us and looking forward to getting back to Placerville this weekend.”
