(PETERSEN MEDIA- Watsonville, CA)- Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Brad Furr grabbed the lead early and held off a charge from Geoff Ensign to pocket his first Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo win of the season during the series’ penultimate event of 2017.
By way of his dash win, Jerry Bonnema would lead the field to green with Brad Furr to his outside, and when the green flag was displayed to the field it was Bonnema getting the early jump.
Bonnema’s lead would be short lived as Brad Furr would race by to take command on the race’s second lap before the first stoppage of the night came as Kurt Nelson got over in turns three and four.
Back underway, Furr would get a great restart and pull away from the pack as Matthew Moles began to pressure Bonnema for the second spot before eventually taking the position.
As the leaders got into traffic, Moles would cut into Furr’s sizeable lead but would trip over the cushion in turns one and two and allow Geoff Ensign to take over the runner up spot.
With traffic becoming more of a factor, Ensign would give Furr all he could handle for the race lead until the pace was halted on the 26th circuit as Moles’ strong night came to an end with mechanical issues as he slowed in turn four.
Furr would lead the field back to green as Ensign ran in the second spot followed by Scott Parker, Colby Johnson, and Jerry Bonnema rounded out the top five. Working the bottom, Furr would open up a quick gap until the caution was again needed on lap 28 as Jeremy Chisum and Ocean Speedway first time Cody Jessop got together in turn four.
The final two laps would see Furr stay glued to the bottom as Ensign thrilled the crowd and rode the cushion around the ¼ mile speedway. While Ensign made it exciting, Furr was able to fend him off and claim the win by just .148 seconds.
Scott Parker would take the third spot as Dustin Golobic had a nice night that ended with a fourth place finish as did Colby Johnson as he came home in the fifth spot.
Koen Show, Jake Haulot, Jerry Bonnema, Jason Chisum, and Jeremy Chisum would round out the Top 10.
Friday night at Ocean Speedway a total of 19 cars would check in and it would be Brad Furr earning the Ray Scheidts Electric Fast Time award. A total of three heat races were ran with wins going to Scott Parker, Matthew Moles and Gary Nelson, Jr.
Dustin Golobic earned Hive Five Pizza Hard Charger honors as he gained seven spots in the feature, and Kurt Nelson was awarded the Beer Optics Hard Luck award after losing an engine in hot laps and tipping over in the feature event.
