PETERSEN MEDIA: In a year of firsts for young Braden Chiaramonte, he added another first over the weekend. Battling with the USAC/CRA Series at Santa Maria Speedway, Chiaramonte scored his first career win with the series as he led all 30 laps in doing so.
“The Non-Wing season has definitely been tough at times this year, and a huge learning curve, but it feels really good to finally get my family car in USAC/CRA victory lane,” Chiaramonte said.
With 24 cars checked in at the recently revived Santa Maria Speedway near San Luis Obispo, CA, Chiaramonte got his night kicked off by timing in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, the El Cajon, CA racer had his elbows up as he worked his way forward at the onset of the race. Picking up a couple of positions quickly, Chiaramonte settled into second where he went on to finish.
Moving into the 30-lap feature event, Chiaramonte found himself on the pole of the 30-lapper as he had his sights set on his first career series triumph.
In what was his seventh career series start, Chiaramonte mashed the gas when the green flag was displayed as he jumped out to the early lead and set an early pace around the 1/3 mile oval.
Leading the way over the likes of Kaleb Montgomery as well as Logan and Cody Williams, the youngster never wavered as he continued to hold command of the race.
After coming from last to first to win his first race of the season in Sprint Car Challenge Tour action earlier this summer, this one came a bit easier for him as he was able to fend off the challenges and lead every lap and score the win.
With the win, Chiaramonte becomes the 84th career winner with the series, as he now turns his attention back to winged race.
ON TAP: Chiaramonte is idle for the next two weekends before he heads back to Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA on August 31st and September 1st for the Nor-Cal Posse Shootout.
