PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of his first win of the year one week ago, Andy Gregg looked to build off that momentum on Saturday night as he kicks off the final four nights of action at Placerville Speedway as a car owner, but unfortunately mechanical issues in the feature event would plague his finish.
“We had a good car all night long, but we when we got out on the track for the feature, I knew we had an issue and it was pretty frustrated,” Andy Gregg said. “I did all I could and ended up going to the work area under the late red to see if it was something we could possibly fix for the final few laps.”
29 cars checked into the pit area for what was fan appreciation night, and the Diamond Springs, CA driver would time the GUTS/LAL Motorsports/Crane Inspection Agency backed sprinter in 15th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Needing to win his heat for a berth in the redraw, Gregg would do just that as he out gunned Blake Carrick. Picking up the win, Gregg would move into the redraw where the eight pill placed him on the outside of the fourth row for the impending 25-lap feature event.
Getting down to the speedway following track work prior to the A, Gregg would feel something amiss with his brakes during the hot lap session. Able to get brakes by working the pedal, Gregg would do a great job of keeping his machine inside the Top-10.
As the problem worsened Gregg would slowly slip back through the field as he would find himself back in 10th late in the race. With the problem increasingly worse under red flag conditions, Gregg would give up his ninth position and head to the work area to let his team try and make any changes they could for the final three laps.
Rejoining the field, Gregg would close the night out with a 15th place finish.
“It was a bummer, because with the way the track was, I felt really confident heading into the ‘A’,’ Gregg added. “We had a little pedal and as that went away things got tough, and I made the decision to head up to the work area and see if we could do something. Thanks to my guys for a lot of hard work.”
Andy would like to thank GUTS, LAL Motorsports, Crane Inspection Agency, Meyers and Son Drywall, Nail it Roofing, CTL Forest Management, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Aaron Dosh Attorney at Law, Ice House Resort, Classic Fence Co., Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, Sierra Ice, Ford’s Only, MF Inc., and Gilly’s Radiator for their support.
