PETERSEN MEDIA: Sunday night in Chico, CA, Andy Gregg returned to the seat of the BrownEagle Racing No. 01 machine as the team made their long-awaited season debut.
“It was a good first night out for the year with the BrownEagle Racing team,” Andy Gregg said. “We were happy with how we timed in, then we had a little bad luck in our heat race, and it carried over and forced us to pull off early in the feature event.”
With 39 cars packed into the Silver Dollar Speedway pit area on Sunday night, Gregg got off to a solid start as he timed in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Moving into heat race action, Gregg would get into second, but would then have an issue with his rear brake caliper breaking off. Running the majority of the race with no brakes, Gregg would finish second and move into the feature event.
As the team thrashed to make repair in between the heat race and the feature event, they were unable to make many adjustments to their setup and it would result in quite a handful for the Placerville, CA native in the 25-lap affair.
Running inside the Top-10 early in the race, Gregg would really have his hands full as he drifted back through the field. With the car worsening as the laps clicked off, the veteran driver made the decision to head back to the pit area rather than risk tearing any equipment up.
“Big thanks to everyone who stepped in and helped us make repairs after the heat,” Gregg said. “It was a little bit of a bummer we had a rough go in the feature, but all in all a fun first night back out with these guys.”
