PETERSEN MEDIA- Though it was not the kind of night Bubba DeCaires and the Dale Miller Motorsports team had hoped to have on Saturday night, the young driver was able to learn from it as he has already put the night behind him.
“There was some good that came out of Saturday night, for sure, but getting upside down kind of puts a black eye on the night,” DeCaires said.
In his first season behind the wheel of a winged 360ci sprint car, DeCaires continues to make strides and on Saturday night he opened the night up by timing the Thompson’s Auto/RedHawk Casino/Dale Miller Septic, Inc. backed No. 4SA machine in 20th quickest in time trials.
Lining up in the fourth row of his heat race, the Elk Grove, CA youngster would battle with battle with fellow Rookie, Blake Carrick, as they jockeyed over the final transfer position into the feature event.
DeCaires would hold firm on the spot as he would finish fifth and punch his ticket into the 25-lap feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from the ninth row.
When the green flag dropped, DeCaires would go to work on some drivers as he looked to get the No. 4SA machine going forward. Able to pick up some cars, the early goings of the race would be slowed by stoppages.
Running the high, scary side of the speedway, DeCaires would fall victim to the cushion in turn one just past the race’s halfway point. Getting out of shape, DeCaires would end up getting upside down and it would force him to the work area.
Able to restart, DeCaires would make a few more laps before pulling back into the pit area and calling it a night.
“It was a bummer way to end our night, but we will move on,” DeCaires added. “Thanks to Dale Miller for continuing to give me a shot, and all of the people who support his race team.”
