PETERSEN MEDIA: Competing in Chico, CA on Friday night in the family owned car, as well as in Alger, WA on Saturday night with Doug Rutz Racing, Justyn Cox had a very strong weekend that saw him record a pair of Top-Five finishes.

“It was a really good weekend,’ Justyn Cox said. “We were in the hunt to win on Friday, and I gave it away which is frustrating but we had a good car. Saturday was a cool experience to fly in and run Skagit Speedway with Doug Rutz for my first visit since 2013 as we got some laps prior to Dirt Cup.”

Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway aboard the Michael David Winery/Five Window Beer Company/Cranked Naturals backed No. 31C, Cox timed in seventh fastest in time trials which was good enough for the pole of his heat race.

Grabbing the heat race win, Cox would move into the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the pole as he searched for his first career Silver Dollar Speedway triumph.

Getting the jump, Cox looked cool and calm out front as the only thing that seemed to slow him on Friday night was a myriad of stoppages. Leading the first 21 laps, Cox would lose the lead on lap 22 as Chase Majdic beat him to the bottom of the racing surface and took over.

Cox would throw a couple of moves at the new leader in hopes of reclaiming the top spot, but it would be to no avail as he settled for second on this night.

Burning the midnight oil, Cox would hop a flight to Alger, WA where he reunited with car owner Doug Rutz at Skagit Speedway to get some laps in preparation for the looming Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.

In what was his first appearance to the track since 2013, Cox would get off to a bit of a slow start as he timed in 12th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Making some changes for heat race action, Cox would adapt well as he picked up the win, which placed him in the sixth row of the feature event.

As the feature event came to life, Cox would slowly work his way forward methodically picking off cars. Working his way through the Top-10, Cox would make his way into the fourth position as the checkered flag dropped.

“Really happy with how we progressed at Skagit Speedway on Saturday,” Cox noted. “It was a great test, and to be right behind Jason Solwold and Seth Bergman up there is a great measuring stick for us as they are historically really strong there.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-18, Wins-2, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-10
