Car Wash Mike Fast Time Award Highlights Tough Weekend for Andy Forsberg

PETERSEN MEDIA: Entering this past weekend’s Dave Bradway Jr Memorial event at Placerville Speedway with three consecutive strong weekends under his belt, Andy Forsberg had hopes of another good weekend but when it was all said and done a tough weekend was highlighted by a very cherished Car Wash Mike Fast Time Award on Saturday night.

“It was not a great weekend result wise, but finally winning the Car Wash Mike Fast Time Award on Saturday night was definitely something that I will look at as a career highlight,” Andy Forsberg said. “Mike Avilla was a huge supporter of us in Northern CA before his passing, and he was just a good person. We had some good times, and to win this in his honor is something I’ve been trying to do since it’s inception in 2012.”

The double header weekend featured Sprint Car Challenge Tour action on Friday night and NARC competition on Saturday.

Friday night’s SCCT show saw 40 cars pack into the pit area and Forsberg kicked the night off by timing the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Oroville Tax backed No. 92 in 10th fastest in his qualifying flight.

Starting and finishing fifth in his heat race, the Auburn, CA driver locked directly into the 35-lap feature event where he secured the 20th starting position.

On the slick racing surface, Forsberg was slowly able to work his way forward as he climbed into 16th by the time the yellow flag flew. The ensuring double file restart saw him charge into turns one and two when he hooked the thick cushion that built up and ended up getting upside down. While he was okay, there were a couple of issues that were unable to be repaired in the work area and his night came to a close.

Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial with the NARC series, Forsberg got off to a fantastic start with the 33-car field as he earned the Car Wash Mike Fast Time Award.

Finishing second in his heat race, Forsberg transferred into the Dash where the vaunted eight pill lined him up in the fourth row of the six-lap shootout.

Unable to improve his feature event starting position, Forsberg rolled off eighth for the 40-lap feature event, but would not stay there long.

The opening laps of the feature event slowed heavily by stoppages; Forsberg was able to pick up spots when the action was green. Working into fifth by the third lap, Forsberg jumped into fourth following an open red on the fifth lap, and worked hard for a spot on the podium.

Getting into third at the halfway point, Forsberg ran there for a pir of laps before his car started to go away and he drifted back to fifth on the 24th lap.

Searching for grip, Forsberg was able to get his wing back as he slipped into sixth. On the 33rd lap, the Auburn, CA driver tripped the cushion in turns three and four, but with how thick it was, it packed his front end with mud and brought him to an instant stop.

That also brought his night to an instant end.

“I just made a mistake there and got over the cushion,” Forsberg said. “Usually, it’s not detrimental when that happens, but with how thick it was tonight it brought me to a stop and high centered me. It was good to be really competitive in the 410ci, I just wish we could have finished the deal out.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
