PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of a two-week trip to Knoxville, IA, Tanner Carrick wasted no time returning to action in California as he took part in the Tyler Wolf Memorial on Friday night in Chico, CA and the Johnny Key Classic in Watsonville, CA on Saturday night.
“It was great to get back home and get back to racing on some more familiar surfaces,” Tanner Carrick said. “Friday night we unfortunately got caught up in an early incident, and Saturday night the track took rubber, and our result really doesn’t show how good I think our car was.”
Involved in an early incident that left his machine too damaged to continue during Friday night’s feature in Chico, CA, Carrick and company made the trip to Ocean Speedway on Saturday night for Sprint Car Challenge Tour action.
Timing in third fastest in group qualifying with 48 cars checked in, Carrick would find himself on the front row of his heat race alongside fellow young gun, Corey Day.
Slipping back to fourth at the start of his heat race, a late restart would allow Carrick to gain a spot as he was able to get into third, and safely transfer into the 35-lap Johnny Key Classic feature event.
Missing out of the Dash, the Lincoln, CA driver would find himself in the eighth row for the feature event as he would take the green from the 15th starting position.
On a track that would ultimately take rubber, Carrick did what he could to pick up positions in the early goings of the feature event. With the first half of the race clicking off at a rapid pace, Carrick would manage to get up into the 12th position.
Following the race’s first restart, the track would start to change in a hurry as rubber would start to go down. As the rubber continued to go down, everyone was forced into single file formation as the race then turned into a tire management game.
Unable to pick up any more positions with rubber down, Carrick would cap his weekend off with a 12th place finish.
“I got a few spots early, but messing my heat race up really hurt us,” Carrick said. “Thanks to my guys for all of their hard work.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 46, Wins: 6, Top 5’s: 21, Top 10’s: 29
