PETERSEN MEDIA: Some nights it takes a little bit of help from the racing family and your team to keep your championship aspirations alive, and on Saturday night in Ventura, CA that was the case for Austin Liggett and the Austin Liggett Racing team.
“First and foremost I have to thank EVERYONE that stepped up and lent us a hand in the work area on Saturday night,” Austin Liggett said. “There was a ton of helpers getting us back on track and it means a lot to me to have competitors work alongside my team to help out.”
Making a return trip to Ventura Raceway with the USAC West Coast 360 Series after picking up a win last time out, Liggett would pick right up where he left off as he timed the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications backed No. 83 machine in 11th quickest in time trials with the pits full of 30 USAC West Coast 350 entrants.
Forging his way to a heat race win, the Tracy, CA pilot would roll off from the fourth starting position for the 30-lap feature event. When the green flag dropped, Liggett quickly jumped into the third position where he would settle in and raced with Ryan Bernal and Jake Swanson.
On lap 13 trouble would ensue as contact from behind would get Liggett out of shape and cause a multi car pile up with the ALR entry taking some big blows. Beaten and battered, Liggett would take his car to the work area where a slew of crew members form other teams met him and went to work repairing what they could in a short amount of time.
Still beat up, Liggett would be able to tag the rear of the field as he would have 17 laps to get as many positions as he could to salvage his night. Despite being aboard a damaged racecar, Liggett would work his way forward and escape what looked with a tough night with a 10th place finish.
“I didn’t think we had a chance to get back out, but somehow everyone got us back in the game and we made something of what looked to be a pretty bad night,” Liggett added. “Again, thanks to my family for their support and hard work, as well as everyone that supports us.”
Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Lucas Oil, Hurst Fabrications, Infinity Shocks, 4 Alarm Promotions, Epic Fire Apparel, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-15, Wins-3, Top 5’s-10, Top 10’s-11
ON TAP: Liggett will be idle this weekend before more USAC West Coast 360 action on July 28t in Bakersfield, CA.
