Civil War Series Makes Highly Anticipated Return To Ocean Speedway For Howard Kaeding Classic on Fri

(PETERSEN MEDIA-Aptos, CA)- For the first time since the 2011 season the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster returns to the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday night taking part in the Howard Kaeding Classic in what will be the first of two stops at the Santa Cruz Country Fairground in 2014.
Running in conjunction with the highly competitive Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo, The stars and cars of the Civil War Series will be part of the Howard Kaeding Classic for the first time in the events three year history, kicking the weekend off as the King of the West Sprint Car Series shut the event down on Saturday night.
Heading into this Friday night’s event, 2013 Series Champion, Sean Becker enters as the point leader, but Shane Golobic is right on his heels after having a rough night at the Petaluma Speedway on July 5th.
Golobic also comes into this event as the Ocean Sprints Presented By Taco Bravo Point Leader, as he had a very strong season at the Ocean Speedway to date, and will look to use that to his advantage to add to his already sizeable point lead, and also take back the Civil War Point lead.
With this event awarding season points to both series’, and the King of the West Series running at the same venue on Saturday night, fans will not want to miss this event as a healthy field of cars in expected to be on hand, as the racing community pays homage to the legendary Howard Kaeding.
With Becker and Golobic leading the way, Auburn, CA driver, Andy Forsberg sits third in the series standings, and will look to rebound this weekend, to tighten up the race to the championship. Over the last few years, Forsberg has made spontaneous visits to the Ocean Speedway and has been successful, and will surely look to be a contender on Saturday night.
Sitting in the fourth spot is local stand out, Justin Sanders. Sanders has had a great season to date, and will look to snag his first Civil War win of 2014 in front of his hometown crowd, after his charged from 21st to 10th just one week ago.
Wilton, CA driver, Matt Peterson rounds out the Top-Five in the highly competitive Civil War Series standings by way of a career best third place finish with the series just one week ago in Petaluma, CA. Peterson showed the ability to hang with the best in the business and will be hungry to duplicate his performance.
Other drivers expected to be on hand are Alissa Geving, Kurt Nelson, Herman Klein, Koen Shaw, Carl Droivold Steven Tiner to go along with Taco Bravo and KWS drivers such as Carson Macedo, Willie Croft, Jonathan Allard, Tommy Tarlton, Brent Kaeding, Bradd Furr, Kyle Hirst, and many more.
The weekend is packed with a ton of activities aside from the racing, as there will be a pre-race party and car show at the High Five Pizza location at the Silver Creek Sports Plex located at 800 Embeded Way in San Jose, CA. Lasting from 5pm-9pm, there will be racecars, hot rods, and various drivers on hand to kick off the weekend. Catering By Five will be serving a BBQ Chicken and Rib Dinner for donation with proceeds going to the Silver Creek Sports Plex Foundation.
Following Friday night’s race, there will be a post race party where fans are invited out to hang out with their favorite drivers and enjoy soda, beer, and food from High-5 Pizza, and Catering By 5.
Saturday afternoon features the annual HK Luncheon in the pit area for a $20 donation with proceeds going to the NARC Benevolent Fund. Lunch will again be catered by Catering By 5, and there will be various items on display for silent auction.
