PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back on track Friday night in Tulare, CA after rain cancelled last week’s scheduled race in Nevada, Cody Lamar took on the stars and cars of the Sprint Car Challenge Tour during the Peter Murphy Classic and came home with a 12th place finish.
“It was a pretty good night,” Cody Lamar said. “I thought we had really good speed but unfortunately the track took some rubber in the feature event and it was pretty tough to do anything.”
Lamar kicked his night off by timing the A1 Septic/Amsoil/Walker Performance backed No. 9L entry in fourth quickest in his qualifying group. With the SCCT format, that would line him up on the front row of his heat race where he would finish second to Thunderbowl Raceway standout, Bud Kaeding.
Moving directly into the feature event, the Sacramento, CA driver would find himself in the 11th starting position for the 30-lap Peter Murphy Classic feature event. On a very slick and abrasive track that already had some rubber down before the green flag dropped, Lamar would find himself battling in the Top-10 until he spun his machine out trying to avoid a car that had got out of shape in front of him.
Going to the back of the pack, Lamar would have his hands full with rubber continuing to go down on the speedway. Though passing would prove to be tough from the rear of the field, Lamar would be patient and take what he could as cars bobbled or missed their line.
Fighting hard while keeping his tires underneath him, Lamar would work his way back up to take the checkered flag in the 12th position to cap off a long night in Tulare, CA.
“I was really happy with how the car felt and how our night went considering some of the stuff that happened,” Lamar said. “To come back forward like we did was a good confidence boost and hopefully this weekend we are on two racy surfaces.”
Cody and his team would like to thank A1 Septic, Amsoil, Walker Performance Filtration, and Joe Hunt Magnetos for their continued support.
