PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA for the 31st Annual Penny Newman Grain Cotton Classic, Colby Copeland and the Antaya Motorsports team would finish 15th during the Saturday night feature event.

“Friday night we had a good run going, but I made a mistake passing for fourth place and our night came to an end,” Copeland said. “Saturday night we missed the set up, and struggled a little during the feature event.”

Opening the weekend up during Friday night’s 360ci event, Copeland would time in eighth fastest during qualifying time trials. Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA pilot would have a very strong showing as he raced his way to the win, and punched his ticket into the nightly Dash.

Finishing eighth in the Dash, Copeland would grid the field from the fourth row for the thirty-lap feature event. On a surface that was conducive to passing, Copeland would get off to a nice start aboard the Antaya Motorsports machine as he worked his way toward the Top-Five.

Just before the race reached the halfway point, Copeland would dive low looking to make a move into the fourth spot, but contact with an infield barrier would cause damage to the front end, and bring his night to an early end.

Returning to action on Saturday night with the King of the West series, Copeland would get off to another good start as he qualified fifth fastest amongst the thirty cars recording a time.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, Copeland would again find his way into the Dash due to his qualifying effort, and a sixth place finish would put him sixth on the grid for the thirty-lap Cotton Classic feature event.

When the race came to life, Copeland would get off to a slow start, as he would lose several positions. Falling out of the Top-Ten, Copeland would search around the track trying anything he could to get going in the right direction.

Able to weather the storm, Copeland would close his night out by finishing in the 15th spot.

“I have to thank this entire Antaya Motorsports team for their continued hard work,” Copeland added. “Overall our weekend did not go as we had hoped, but it is in the past and now we will focus on Trophy Cup.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Antaya Motorsports will now compete in their first ever Trophy Cup that kicks off in Tulare, CA this coming Thursday night.
