PETERSEN MEDIA: The Arizona based Bandit Racing team made the tow to central California over the weekend for a weekend of racing with Colby Copeland, and the results were again strong as Copeland picked up a second place finish on Friday night at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA before picking up a second place finish on Saturday night in Tulare, CA with the King of the West Series.

Checking in at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Friday night for a 360ci event, Copeland got the night started out by timing the King Racing Products/BR Motorsports/MVT No. 18w machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Finishing second in his heat race, Copeland would go onto the Dash where a third place finish would line him up in the second row of the 30-lap main event.

Getting into the second spot early in the night, Copeland would chase after the race leader Gio Scelzi on what was an extremely slick and racy Keller Auto Speedway. Getting into the top spot on the 16th lap, Copeland would feel pressure from Scelzi and fall back to the second spot on the 20th lap.

A late restart would see Copeland fall back to the third spot, but in the race’s closing laps he would get back by Scelzi to take second at the stripe.

Heading to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA on Saturday night to battle with the King of the West 410ci Series, Copeland continued to show speed as he timed the DMI/EKR Heating and Cooling/EMI machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Picking up the win during his heat race, the Roseville, CA driver would earn a spot in the all-important Dash where a second place finish would put him on the front row of the 30-lap feature event alongside Willie Croft.

When the race went green, Copeland would settle into the second spot as he played hunter and chased after Croft who ran ahead of him on a very technical surface offered up by the Thunderbowl Raceway.

Feeling pressure from third running Rico Abreu, Copeland would actually make a bid for the lead on the 10th lap only to see the caution fly and slow the pace of the race.

Back underway, Copeland would fall to the third spot as Abreu got by him on the restart, but he would hang tough and not let him get away.

On the race’s 21st lap, Copeland would take advantage of Abreu’s misfortune and reclaim the second spot. Chasing after Croft during the race’s final nine laps, Copeland would match his career best finish with the series as he held on to finish in the second spot.

“It is fun getting to race with Colby,” Team Manager, Billy Muller said. “We have had some really good results each time we hit the track, and I think we are getting better. We have some more races planned this Summer, so hopefully we can keep running well together.”

Bandit Racing would like to thank King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, MVT, Diversified Machine, EKR Heating and Cooling, EMI, Wings Unlimited, Borello Racing Engines, and Schure Built Suspension for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Bandit Racing is unsure when their next race will be at this time.
