PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing back aboard the Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes No. x1Jr on Saturday night in Placerville, CA for the Mark Forni Classic, Colby Copeland and the F&F Racing team would pocket a sixth place finish.

“We had a really good car and came away with a sixth place finish,” Colby Copeland said. “We were hoping to be a little better, but we have two more races this weekend to try again.”

With 42 cars on hand for the 12th Annual Mark Forni Classic, Copeland kick started the night by timing the Econo Lube-N-Tune & Brakes No. X1JR entry in 11th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Getting the jump in the heat from his front row starting position, the Roseville, CA driver would take home the win and more importantly put himself in the nightly Top-Eight redraw, where the seven pill line him up in the fourth row for the 25-lap affair.

As the race came to life, Copeland would hold down the seventh spot as he made laps around the slick ¼ mile speedway. Looking strong, Copeland would make waves on a lap nine restart that saw him quickly take over the fifth spot, and then move into fourth a lap later.

Continuing to move forward, Copeland would hook up in a good battle with Steven Tiner for the third spot and would briefly get it for one lap before falling back to fourth on the 15th lap.

A stoppage on the 20th lap would bring up another double-file restart and this time Copeland would lose a couple of positions as he fell back to sixth. A lap 22 restart would see the Roseville, CA wheel man battle to get back into the top-five, but when the checkered flag flew he finished sixth.

“We had a good run right around the halfway point that saw us get up into the lead pack,” Copeladn said. “A couple of late restarts weren’t kind to us, and we slipped back to sixth. Thanks to my guys for all of their work, and hopefully we be up front again this weekend.”

Copeland and F&F Racing would like to thank Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes, and CRV Carbon Solutions for their support in 2017.
