PETERSEN MEDIA: With a scheduling conflict only allowing Harley Van Dyke’s Van Dyke Motorsports entry to be at the Fall Nationals for the Friday show, Colby Wiesz got the call to take the reigns of the Lucas Oil/K&N Products/JRI Shocks No. 5h machine, and he ended up finishing in the 13th spot.
“Our finish is not really an indication of how we were,” Colby Wiesz said. “We got going pretty good in the feature, but someone got out of shape in front of us, and we lost quite a few spots.”
Working on some different packages early in the night, Wiesz timed the Van Dyke entry in eighth fastest, with 48 cars checked into the pit area.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Wiesz would have some issues, and slipped back to a seventh place finish, putting the NAAKE Suspension/Rodgers Racing Engines/FSR Radiators backed entry in the B main.
“We just kind of fought some things in our heat race, but we were able to work through it, and ran pretty well in the B,” he added.
Staring on the outside pole for the semi, Wiesz quickly jumped into the lead as he set a torrid pace on his way to winning the race, and earning a spot into the evening’s feature event, where he would line up in the sixth row.
With the race coming to life Wiesz battled inside the Top-10 much of the race, as he stayed glued to Andy Forsberg, Shane Golobic, and Bud Kaeding for much of the night.
With a trio of cautions mixed into the event, Wiesz continued to run strong inside the Top-10 on the hooked up surface until a car bicycled in front of him, causing him to fall back to the 13th spot, where he ultimately would go on to finish.
“I can’t thank Harley Van Dyke enough for thinking of me, and giving me a chance to drive for him for the night,” Wiesz said. “We all worked well together, and got some things worked out, and overall I think we had a decent night.”
The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil, K&N Products, JRI Shocks, NAAKE Suspension Rodgers Racing Engines, FSR Radiators, for their support during the year.
ON TAP: The Van Dyke Motorsports team has not yet decided where they will next be in action.
