Cole Macedo and Tarlton Motorsports Sixth at Super Dirt Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending the weekend at Skagit Speedway for the 51st Annual Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup, Cole Macedo and the Tarlton Motorsports team picked up a sixth-place finish during Saturday night’s finale.

“I thought we had a really solid and successful Dirt Cup,” Cole Macedo said. “We had good speed every night, and we put ourselves in a good points position to have a short on the final night.”

Thursday night the curtain went up on the 51st running of the prestigious event at the famed Skagit Speedway. Macedo got the weekend kicked off by timing the Tarlton and Son Inc./Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in eighth fastest after going out late in the qualifying session.

Lining up seventh in his heat race, Macedo earned valuable points as he finished fifth. Once all points were tabulated, Macedo sat eighth in points and that put him ninth on the starting grid for the first feature event of the week.

On a very slick Skagit Speedway racing surface, Macedo kept his mount inside the Top-10 as the feature went non-stop. Picking up a few positions along the way, Macedo closed opening night out with a seventh-place finish.

Back in action on Friday night, Macedo again went out late in time trials, as he was the last car on the clock and laid down a great lap and was second fastest overall on the night.

With the eight-car inversion in heat race action, Macedo lined up eighth needing to move forward to add to his point total to dictate his starting position. Able to gain two spots, a sixth-place finish put the Lemoore, CA driver second in points on Friday and lined up in the ninth row of the feature, with the Top-18 point earners inverted.

Set for the 35-lapper needing to move forward to set himself up for Saturday night, Macedo did just that as he carved his way towards the Top-10. Working into 13th on the eighth lap, Macedo was in 11th on lap 15.

Cracking the Top-10 on lap 18, passing would start to slow down as the track became a little tricky to navigate. Able to get up to eighth with five laps left in the race, Macedo ultimately settled for a ninth-place finish but was securely in Saturday’s 40-lap finale.

Lining up sixth for the final feature of a busy two-week stretch, Macedo settled in as the race came to life. Getting as high as fifth and dropping to as slow as seventh, Macedo kept himself in a good spot all race long.

Settling into sixth just past the halfway point, Macedo closed his first Super Dirt Cup out with a sixth place finish.

“Starting sixth, we had hoped to make a run to the front and battle for the win, but it didn’t quite go that way,” Macedo added. “Drew and the guys gave me a good car, we just got locked into battles inside the Top-10. We were solid, and we are happy with how the week went overall.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son Inc., Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions, Executive Auto Sales, Empire Machinery, Durst, Reston Enterprises, Bandy and Associates, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, System 1 Ignition, Vortex Wings, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 17, Wins: 3, Top 5’s: 5, Top 10’s: 11.

ON TAP: Macedo and Tarlton Motorsports will be idle for a couple of weekends but are set to make their way to the Midwest as they will check in at Eldora Speedway for the Eldora Million on July 12th and 13th before taking part in the Knight Before and the Kings Royal on the 14th and 15th.
