PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his long awaited debut at Calistoga Speedway in beautiful Calistoga, CA, Cole Macedo made the most of it as the Lemoore, CA driver finished third and extended his Civil War Series points lead with just four series events remaining on the 2018 schedule.

“Saturday night went very well,” Cole Macedo said. “I was pretty nervous heading into the event since it was my first time on a ½ mile but I spoke to a few drivers beforehand and they calmed my nerves and really gave me some sound advice.”

With 22 cars on hand for the Wine Country Classic, Macedo kicked his night off by timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Elite Landscape Construction/Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino No. 21x entry in fifth quickest in time trials.

Lining up in the third starting position in his heat race, Macedo would finish third after chasing after Willie Croft and Tanner Thorson. Just narrowly missing out on a berth in the six-car Dash, Macedo would line his potent Tarlton Motorsports entry up in the eighth starting position for the 25-lap feature event.

On  slick racing surface that crews massaged all night long, Maceod would get off to a nice start as he would make some early moves and find himself in fourth in what seemed like no time at all.

Taking advantage of Sean Becker’s misfortune, Macedo would find himself in the third position though he would feel pressure from former Calistoga Speedway Track Champion, and former Civil War Champion, Shane Golobic. Getting a bit sideways in one corner, Macedo would give up the spot but he would remain calm as he spent the next laps building his momentum back up.

Finding some rubber that had gone down on the speedway, Macedo was able to use that to his advantage to work back by Golobic to finish third and end his first ever visit to Calistoga Speedway on the podium.

“My dad really gave me an awesome car, and it is great to finish on the podium at such a tough track against such a strong field,” Cole Macedo added. “I told myself I needed to keep the car straight, and when I was able to do that we were pretty good. I made a couple mistakes but I knew if I could minimize them I would be okay, and fortunately I was able to. Huge thanks to Tom, Tommy, and everyone that allows me to have such a great opportunity.”

The Tarlton Motorsports team would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Yokut Gas, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2018 season.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-16, Wins-0, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-9.

ON TAP: Cole is back in action on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA.
