Cole Macedo Looks to Rebound at Civil War Gold Cup Following Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading into the 58th Annual Johnny Key Classic at Ocean Speedway on Saturday night, Cole Macedo had high hopes with his recent success at the track. The Civil War Series point leader didn’t have quite the night he had hoped for but he was still able to race his way into the feature event.
“We had ran very well at Ocean Speedway all year long so it was not the kind of night I was expecting,” Cole Macedo said. “Qualifying set the tone for the night, and with a tough time we had our work cut out for us.”
Timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales No. 21x machine in 28th fastest amongst the 38 cars packed into the pit area, Macedo had some work to do in his heat race.
From his fourth row starting position, the Lemoore, CA driver would give it his all for a transfer position but his seventh place finish would put him in the night’s first ‘B’ Main.
Avoiding a near disaster at the start of the ‘B’, Macedo’s machine would be forced into the infield but the youngster would do a great job of keeping his machine fired and would quickly make it back on to the racing surface.
Fighting his way forward, Macedo would earn the third and final transfer position and safely transfer into the 50-lap feature event. Lining up 21st in the feature event, Macedo would work his way forward slowly as he neared the Top-10 when the halfway caution flew.
With Paul Baines and his father, Norm, going to work on the Tarlton Motorsports entry, Macedo would continue to gain during the final 25-laps of the race. Macedo would put together a nice run that started 21st and culminating with a 12th place finish.
“I really have to thank Paul Baines, my dad and everyone for all of their hard work all night,” Macedo added. “It was tough at the beginning but we all stayed positive and made it an okay night. We will go to work now and get ready for the Wednesday night show in Chico, CA.”
The Tarlton Motorsports team would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Yokut Gas, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2018 season.
