PETERSEN MEDIA- Racing close to home over this past weekend, Cole Macedo and Tarlton Motorsports put together a strong three race showing as the Lemoore, CA driver recorded a trio of Top-10 finishes, including a second place run during the second ‘Twin-20’ at the Morrie Williams Memorial.

“It ended up being a decent weekend, but it wasn’t quite what we had in mind racing in front of so many family and friends,” Cole Macedo said. “Friday night we had some issues that put us in a hole, but we took some big swings and put ourselves in a good position to battle for a win in the second feature event.”

Timing the Tarlton and Son Inc./Complete Parts and Equipment Solutions/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in 14thfastest in time trials, Macedo and company went to work and made changes for their heat race.

Finishing fifth in heat race competition on a very fast and hooked up racing surface, Macedo was slated to take the green flag for the first of two 20-lap feature events from the 14th starting position.

With the surface still very fast and tough to pass on, Macedo had a strong piece under him that allowed him to work his way forward. Taking what he could get on the hooked up surface, Macedo worked his way into the Top-10 as he tallied an eighth place finish.

Based on his eighth-place finish, and all the lead lap cars being fully inverted for the second 20-lap feature, Macedo found himself in the seventh starting position as he chased after a win at Kings Speedway.

Continuing to race his way forward, Macedo moved into second in the fast-paced feature event as he closed in on race leader, DJ Netto who found himself in heavy traffic.

Taking a couple of shots at Netto for the race’s top spot, Macedo could not quite get by the leader, and capped his Friday night off with a second-place finish.

Saturday night, the team shifted gears and went to their 360ci engine as they made the trip to Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA for the ‘Trophy Cup Tune-Up’.

Timing in second quickest in his qualifying group at the Thunderbowl, Macedo led flag to flag in his heat race and wound up in the fourth row for the 25-lap feature event.

Running hard inside the Top-10, Macedo couldn’t get going working the top how he would have liked. Searching around the high banked bullring, Macedo capped his weekend off with a sixth place finish.

“It was good to get some more laps at the Thunderbowl with a 360, because that just isn’t a place we get to a lot, especially with a 360ci,” Macedo noted. “It’s a a huge week for us coming up, and it is a race that you work hard for all year long.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 58, Wins: 5, Top 5’s: 12, Top 10’s: 25.

ON TAP: Macedo and Tarlton Motorsports are now set for the 29th Trophy Cup. The action kicks off Thursday night in Tulare, CA.
