Cole Macedo Poised to Capture Civil War Series Championship After 13th Place Finish at Gold Cup
PETERSEN MEDIA- Though he got off to a tough start last Wednesday night with the Civil War Series pres. by Flowmaster, Cole Macedo was able to fight through and finish 13th on a rubber down surface as he now looks to clinch the title during the series’ final event of the season on Saturday night in Calistoga, CA.
“We actually had a great draw for time trials, but I made a couple of mistakes and over drove the car and it cost us,” Cole Macedo said. “We were really strong in the heat, and things felt good in the feature but it took rubber a couple laps in and we ended up 13th.”
With 46 cars in the pit area on Wednesday night, Macedo would be the first car on the clock and would end up timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21x machine in 11th fastest in time trials.
Needing to win his heat race for a spot in the Dash, the Lemoore, CA driver would end up finishing second which was good enough to still put him in the 30-lap feature event where he would grid the field from the 13th starting position.
Despite track prep, rubber would be down on the speedway at the end of the Non-Wing series’ feature event. When the field made their way onto the speedway, they would run around in single file formation for 30-laps.
Setting into 13th when the field settled onto the rubber, Macedo would be smart as he hit his marks and kept his tires underneath him. Taking the checkered flag in 13th, Macedo is in a great position to capture the series’ title when they check in to Calistoga Speedway on Saturday night for the final Civil War event of the season.
“I have to thank my guys for their hard work, and the Tarlton’s for this chance to go after a championship,” Macedo said. “We ran really well at Calistoga Speedway back in June, and I am feeling really confident heading into this weekend’s event.”
