Cole Macedo Scores High Limit and World of Outlaws Top-5’s Heading Into Knoxville Nationals Week

PETERSEN MEDIA- Cole Macedo and the Tarlton Motorsports team had a great final week of racing action leading into the Knoxville Nationals. Running fifth with the High Limit Series one week ago at Kokomo Speedway, Macedo backed it up with a fifth-place finish during the opening night of the Ironman 55 and charged from 24th to eighth during last night’s Front Row Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway.
“It was an awesome week for our race team, and it was a great way to send us into Nationals week,” Cole Macedo said. “Drew and the guys have been working so hard, and I really thank them for continuing to do so much homework and put us in good positions.”
Macedo kicked last week off at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, IN with the High Limit Series and timed the Tarlton and Son Inc./Complete Parts and Equipment Solutions/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 entry in second fastest in his group before finishing second in his heat race.
Making the Dash, Macedo’s sixth place finish put him in the third row of the 35-lap feature event.
On a very racy Kokomo Speedway, Macedo kept his machine in striking distance all night as he worked his way as high as third at one point during the feature event and was gaining on the leaders.
When the eventful feature event came to a close, Macedo had nothing to hang his head about as he capped the night off with a fifth-place finish.
From Kokomo, IN, the team met up with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series in Pevely, MO for Ironman 55 weekend.
Following rain in the area, Friday night offered a hooked up and rough surface, and Macedo was fast from the get as he timed in fifth fastest and proceeded to pick up a heat race win.
Moving into the Dash, Macedo drew the two pill, and was able to race his way to the win and sit on the pole of the scheduled 30-lapper.
Getting the jump, Macedo looked very strong out front as he led the early stanzas and looked very good. However, the rough surface bit him as he skipped over a rut wrong, and ripped the front shock mount off the axle. Bouncing all over the track, Macedo wrestled his machine around the high banked 1/3 mile oval until a lap 20 wreck brought the feature to an early end as Macedo was credited with a fifth place finish.
Saturday night’s finale featured a smoother surface as the Lemoore, CA driver timed in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Macedo made a big pass to get into second as the runner up finish not only transferred him into the feature event, but it also locked him into the Toyota Dash.
Macedo’s seventh place finish in the Dash lined him up in the fourth row of the 55-lapper. Unfortunately, Macedo’s night was cut short as a part failure on the 15th lap brought his night to an end.
The Tarlton Motorsports team’s final night of action leading into the Knoxville Nationals came this past Monday night as they made the trip to Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA for the Front Row Challenge.
Timing in 25th fastest in time trials, Macedo’s sixth place finish in his heat race forced him into the ‘B’ Main.
Running in fifth during much of the race, Macedo had luck on his side as the leader pulled into the work area during a late caution and handed him the final transfer position. Holding on to the fourth and final transfer once the race resumed, Macedo kept his night alive and was in the 30-lap feature event.
Starting dead last, Macedo came to life on the half mile in the feature event. Despite starting scratch on the field Macedo made some exciting moves as he raced towards the Top-10.
Having some things go his way over the course of the race, Macedo earned the race’s Hard Charger award as he closed the night out with an eighth-place finish.
“To have the success we had this past week with both the Tarlton and Dyson families in attendance means a lot,” Macedo added. “Those families have made this season and this trip possible, so I am really happy we have been able to have some good showings for them.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son Inc., Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions, Executive Auto Sales, Kelly Moore Paints, Empire Machinery, Durst, Reston Enterprises, Bandy and Associates, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, System 1 Ignition, Vortex Wings, and BG Lubricants for their support.
