Contact Derails Joel Myers Jr at Placerville Speedway’s 4th of July Celebration

PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking in at Placerville Speedway on Tuesday night for the track’s 4th of July Spectacular, Joel Myers Jr had a strong night going until a couple bouts of contact brought his night to an early end.
“We have been struggling lately, and Saturday night I felt good, and I think we are trending the right way,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Unfortunately, we endured contact a couple of times on Saturday night and it brought out night to an early end.”
20 cars checked in at Placerville Speedway on Tuesday night, and Myers Jr got off to a quick start as he timed the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 46JR in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver settled into third. Finishing third, Myers Jr had a little luck on his side as he also locked into the redraw where the two-pill put him on the front row of the feature event.
With a massive pile up waiving off the race’s initial start, the second start was good for Myers Jr as he rode the rim and led the opening stanza.
With Tony Gomes using the bottom, he launched off turn two and dropped Myers Jr back to second before Myers Jr slipped back to third while the field settled in.
Running in fourth, much of the field used the bottom groove around the raceway on a slick surface. On the 12th lap, a car made a curious move trying to driver through Myers as he entered turn one. With a left rear start to go flat, Myers Jr entered the bottom of turns three and four where more contact ultimately ended his night as it resulted in a collapsed front end on the 12th lap.
“We just got pin balled at the halfway point of the race and it did us in,” Joel Myers Jr said. “It was a bummer way to end what was a good night for us, but it has us looking forward to Placerville Speedway again this weekend. Thanks to my Dad, Tanner, and Ed for all of their hard work.”
