Cook Motorsports Ends 2021 Season at Merced Speedway with Jayson Bright

Updated: Nov 30, 2021

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making the trip from Washington to California to get two final races in for the 2021 season, Cook Motorsports linked up with Jayson Bright to compete in the Merced 360’s portion of the track’s annual Midget Madness event.

“Merced was a fun two-day show with the Cook’s and I am really thankful for them letting me have this opportunity,” Jayson Bright said. “We started out really well and continued to build our chemistry all week long.”

The action kicked off on Tuesday night where Bright timed the Absolute Plumbing/Cook’s Contracting/CSR Builders backed No. 22x machine in third fastest in his qualifying group.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race on the California bullring, the youngster would race to a fourth-place finish which would transfer him into the 35-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 15th starting position, Bright would continue to get comfortable in the Cook Motorsports entry as he would work his way forward and flirt with a spot in the Top-10 on the tight confines of Merced Speedway.

Getting as high as the 11th position amidst some close quarters racing, Bright would ultimately cap his night off with a 15th place finish.

Back in action on Wednesday night for the final night of action, early issues would hamper Bright’s qualifying effort as the team would end up 24th on the speed charts officially and place them at the back of the pack all night.

Lining up eighth in his heat race, Bright would race his way to a seventh place finish and on this night it would move him into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 24th starting position.

From the tail end of the field, Bright would show good speed as he methodically worked his way forward through the field. Jumping into the Top-15 by the race’s 10th lap, Bright would get into 13th two laps later.

Once in 13th, Bright would make a costly mistake that saw him get over the edge of the track in turn and get the Cook Motorsports entry on its side and bring his night to an end.

“I felt really good with the direction we were heading after Tuesday night, and I felt really good heading into Wednesday’s action,” Bright added. “We had a header issue hinder us in qualifying, but the guys worked through it and we were pretty good in the feature. Unfortuantely I made a mistake on my end that ended our night early, but I am very thankful for this opportunity and am really pleased with how much we gelled and how fast we got in a short period of time. I really want to thank Blake and Rodney Cook for this opportunity.”

Cook Motorsports would like to thank Absolute Plumbing, Cook’s Contracting, CSR Builders, Shark Racing Engines, Cottage Grove Inn, Primetime Designs, Highline Performance, and Cascade Pizza for their support.

ON TAP: Cook Motorsports’ 2021 season has concluded.
