Coos Bay Top-Five Highlights Speedweek Northwest For Lucas Ashe

PETERSEN MEDIA: Having Speedweek Northwest highlighted on his schedule after making his debut during the 2017 season, some great partners stepped up and this years trip a reality and Ashe ran well in Oregon including a Top-Five finish to open the week up at Coos Bay Speedway.
“It was a fun trip, and I really have to thank my family, our great partners, and everyone who made the trip a reality,” Lucas Ashe said. “We had some good run, and some not so good runs, but it was a fun trip overall and that is a huge deal for me.”
Ashe opened the busy week up on Tuesday night in Coos Bay, OR where he timed the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center/SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil backed No. 33 machine in third quickest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing fifth in the Dash, Ashe would take the green flag from the fifth starting position for the 30-lap feature event. On a track that saw him run well one season ago, Ashe would continue the trend as he battled much of the night inside the Top-Five chasing after drivers like Willie Croft, Steven Tiner, and John Carney.
Late in the race, Ashe would use a restart to propel himself around Tiner where he would take home a fourth place finish and get his week off to a great start.
Wednesday night the scene shifted to Lebanon, OR where Ashe would time in eighth fastest in his qualifying group. Finishing sixth in his heat race, the Cottonwood, CA product would be forced into the semi, where he would go from fifth to fourth on the extremely slick and abrasive surface and earn the 20th and final starting position in the feature event.
With the track taking rubber from the race’s onset, Ashe would be aggressive as he was able to race his way forward. Form the back of the pack Ashe would find himself up in 10th late in the race but his right-rear would give way and he would be relegated to a 14th place finish.
Traveling to Banks, OR on Thursday night to compete at Sunset Speedway, Ashe would get off to a bit of a slow start as he timed in 13th fastest with 20-cars taking time on this night.
Finishing third in his heat race, Ashe would run into trouble in the feature event as a part failure lining up for the feature ended his night before the green flag dropped.
The two-night finale for Speedweek Northwest would take place at the ultra popular Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, OR.
Friday night Ashe would time in 12th fastest in his group before racing his way into the feature event where he would grid the field from the 19th starting spot. Admitedly struggling with set up during both nights at Cottage Grove, Ashe would manage to work his way up to a 14th place finish.
Saturday night’s Speedweek Northwest finale would get off to a better start for the youngster as he would find himself seventh on the speed chart when time trials were completed.
Finishing fifth in the heat, Ashe would transfer directly into the final feature event of the week where he would take the green flag from the 16th starting position. When the dust settled on the feature event and speedweek came to a close, Ashe would take the final checkered flag with a 15th place finish.
“It was an accomplishment to make every feature event and to not tear much up,” Ashe said. “It was kind of a bummer we struggled so much at Cottage Grove, but looking back at the week there was some good things accomplished and we had a fast racecar at times. Again, a huge thank you to everyone who made this trip possible.”
Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, Triple X Race Co., DMI Components, VSR, Factory QRC, Shaver Racing Engines, Rod End Supply, Fat Cat Propane, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.
