Corey Day Charges to 8th Place Finish in Chico, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA- Corey Day and Tarlton Motorsports overcame a lap two crash on Saturday night, and a trip to the work area on the opening lap of Sunday’s feature and recorded an eighth-place finish at the Louie Vermeil Classic in Chico, CA.

“Saturday night I missed it in qualifying and set us behind the eight ball, and ultimately we got involved in another cars crash that ended our night,” Day said. “Sunday night was way better all night long. We had a great car, and despite going to the work area on the opening lap, we were able to get back up to an eighth-place finish.”

Taking part in the 13th Louie Vermeil Classic that was held at Silver Dollar Speedway for the first time in its existence, Sunday night saw the Clovis, CA driver time the Tarlton and Son, Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto backed No. 21 machine in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Day would pocket a third-place finish in heat race action. Sitting eighth in nightly points, Day would miss out on a berth into the Dash, but still gridded the field from the fourth row.

When the race went green, Day would slow and come to a stop. Heading to the work area, the Tarlton Motorsports crew would go to work and get the youngster back out for the restart.

Restarting from the tail end of the field, Day would get his elbows up as he was able to slice and dice his way through the field. Using numerous double file restarts to his advantage, Day was able to work his way into the Top-10 as the laps clicked away.

When the checkered flag flew, Day was able to get all the way back up to his scheduled starting position as he closed the race out with an eighth-place finish.

“We have some tough luck, but nobody as thrown in the towel,” Day said. “Really have to thank the Tarlton family for a great opportunity, as well as Paul, Tyrone, and everyone who works on this car and continues to help me learn and progress.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., EZ Haul, Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
