Corey Day Off and Running with Tarlton Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- While they didn’t garner the results they were hoping for in their first weekend together, Corey Day and Tarlton Motorsports showed a lot of speed and opened some eyes during the Howard Kaeding Classic. At Ocean Speedway.

“I really want to thank the Tarlton family for a great opportunity to run with them,” Corey Day said. “I also have to thank Paul Baines for working hard all weekend and really giving me a quick car with both the 360ci and 410ci engine.”

Friday night, Day made his debut with Tarlton Motorsports as he timed the Tarlton and Son, Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales No. 21 machine in fourth quickest in time trials.

Hooking up in an entertaining battle with Blake Carrick in heat race competition, the Clovis, CA driver would finish in third, and transfer into the feature event as well as the Dash.

Lining up fourth in the main by way of his Dash finish, Day would essentially find himself on the front row after the first attempted start was negated. The second start would be good for Day as he powered his way out front and took the early lead.

Looking very strong aboard the Paul Baines prepared entry, Day would lead the first eight laps of the race. A restart on the ninth lap would see contact ensue between Day and another competitor making a bid for the lead and it would result in more contact to Day’s entry that ultimately brought his night to an early end.

Bolting the 410ci powerplant in for Saturday night’s action, Day and company were sent for the HK Classic finale as they competed with the King of the West Series.

Getting off to another strong start on this night, Day would time in third fastest in time trials before finishing fourth in his heat race. Garnering enough points for the Dash, Day would pick up the win in the six-lap shootout and lead the field to green for the $6900 to win feature event.

When the race went green, Day would slip back a few spots as he went to work on the slick Ocean Speedway surface.

Continuing to battle with some of the best in the West, Day would actually bring out of a caution on the 14th lap.

Able to restart, Day would pick up a couple of positions and cap his weekend off with a 14th place finish.

“Friday night we were really in a good position until the lap nine restart issue which ended our night,” Day explained. “Saturday night we got off to a really good start I just fought some issues and we struggled in the feature. All in all, really excited to get back in the Tarlton car this weekend.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., EZ Haul, Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 14, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 7.
