PETERSEN MEDIA- With the 2017 King of the West season winding down, Cory Eliason inched closer to the championship on Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway as he picked up a second place finish in the Antaya Motorsports No. 20.
“It was a really good night for our team,” Eliason said. “We got crashed out during the last KWS race back in July, so to come out and run second tonight is huge heading into some World of Outlaws races, as well as big for us with the King of the West series.”
Eliason got his night off to a very nice start as he timed the Good Guys Rod and Custom/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management No. 20 machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Eliason had to work very hard to work his way into the Dash. Finally getting into the third spot late in the race, Eliason would make himself Dash eligible.
Gridding the field fifth in the six-lap Dash, Eliason was able to improve his feature event starting position by one row, as he pocketed a fourth place finish and put the TW Performance/Kaeding Performance/Cardinal Paint and Powder entry in the second row for the 30-lap feature event.
On a choppy racing surface that saw the field use the low side of the speedway, Eliason ran fourth in the early stages of the race as he duked it out with DJ Netto for third.
Putting on an exciting battle with Netto that also saw Jason Statler get involved, Eliason would take of the third spot just past the race’s halfway point. Once in third Eliason then began to set his sights on second running, Bud Kaeding, who is another driver fighting for the series title.
A lap 17 restart would see the lead trio battle hard, with Eliason moving into the second position on the 21st lap. A final restart on lap 23 would put Eliason on Kaeding’s rear bumper, but a good restart by Kaeding would see Eliason settled for a second place finish on this night.
“It was good to get back in the car and work with Brian, Skip, Larry, TW, Josh, and everyone again,” Eliason added. “I can’t thank them enough for always giving me a fast hotrod.”
Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2017.
