PETERSEN MEDIA- In the lone King of the West double-header weekend of the season, Cory Eliason and Antaya Motorsports ran well during both nights of action as the team finished third on Friday night in Watsonville, CA and sixth on Saturday night in Calistoga, CA.

“It was another good weekend for our race team,” Eliason said. “Friday night I made a mistake late in the race and it cost us a spot, and on Saturday night it took us a little while to get going but once we did we were really good and worked our way forward up to sixth.”

Looking for another win at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night with Antaya Motorsports, Eliason opened the busy weekend up by timing the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management No. 20 machine in eighth fastest in time trials.

Picking up the heat race win in convincing fashion, the Kingsburg, CA driver would finish eighth in the Dash, lining the TW Performance/Kaeding Performance/Cardinal Paint and Powder backed entry up in the fourth row of the 30-lap feature event.

A slick and racy surface would provide a very racy surface to the field, and it allowed Eliason to work his way to the front. Getting off to a great start, Eliason would work his way up to the third spot by the time the caution flag flew on the seventh lap.

Taking over the second spot when the action resumed, Eliason would begin to chase after race leader, Shane Golobic. Getting close to Golobic in traffic, Eliason would dive under to take a shot at the race lead only to the see the caution waive and negate his efforts.

Back underway, Eliason would again hang with Golboic as they broke away from the field. With Golobic getting tripped up on the cushion in turn four late in the race, Eliason would close in looking to capitalize but he too would get tripped up on the cushion even worse and it would result in him losing a spot and falling back to third.

Chasing after Golobic and Justin Sanders in the final laps, Eliason would cap his night with a third place run.

Traveling to Calistoga Speedway on Saturday night for the Dirt Classic, Eliason would time in fifth quickest during qualifying time trials. Running third in his heat, Eliason would finish sixth in the Dash and take the green flag from the third row for the 25-lap ‘A’ Main.

When the race came to life, Eliason would get off to a slow start as he lost several positions in the opening laps. Falling out of the Top-10, Eliason’s machine would come to life after a few laps and he would surge forward.

Racing his way back inside the Top-10, Eliason would sit in the seventh spot when the race’s first yellow flew on the 14th lap. Getting up into fifth late in the race, the final restart on the 20th circuit would cost Eliason a spot as he would slip back to finish sixth at the line.

“Saturday night we made the wrong guess on tire compound and it cost us early in the race,” Eliason said. “After we got going our car was really good. We got up into the Top-Five, but a late restart hurt us a little and we ended up sixth. Overall it was a really fun weekend, and I have to thank all of the team’s partners for their support, and all of these guys for their hard work.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2017.
