PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking on the King of the West Series on Saturday night at his home track, Cory Eliason would finish in the second position at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA and pull to within two points of the series point lead.

“We had good speed all night long, and really got going in the last 10-laps,” Cory Eliason said. “The cushion was tricky, but once I figured it out things came together nicely.”

Kicking the night off in fine fashion, Eliason timed the Good Guys Rod and Custom/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management backed No. 20 in fastest overall in qualifying time trials.

Lining up fourth in heat race action, the Kingsburg, CA driver would get into the top three as his third place finish made him eligible for the six-lap Dash. Advancing from sixth the fourth in the Dash, Eliason would take the green flag from the second row in the 30-lap feature event.

On the slick racing surface that led up to a monster cushion all the way around the speedway, Eliason would battle inside the Top-Five during the early goings of the race as he fought with Bud Kaeding and Gio Scelzi for position.

Spending much of the first 20-laps running in either for fourth or fifth spot, Eliason would begin to make up ground on a lap 22 restart. Getting by both Bud Kaeding and Craig Stidham, the local hero would take over the third spot as he then chased after the Roth Motorsports duo of Kyle Hirst and Gio Scelzi.

In traffic, Eliason would get by Scelzi with a couple of laps to go as he would go on to finish second to Kyle Hirst.

By way of his second place finish, Eliason as now closed in on both Bud Kaeding and Gio Scelzi as he sits just two markers behind to two drivers who are tied atop the season long KWS point standings.

“Overall it was a good night for the Good Guys/Fuel Curve team,” Eliason said. “We were fast all night, and we were right there at the end. Huge thanks to Brian, Skip, TW, Larry, and Josh for all of their support and hard work.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2017.
