Country Builders Racing and Austin McCarl Set for KWS Opener Saturday Night

PETERSEN MEDIA: With the World of Outlaws Spring Swing in in California now a thing of the past, Austin McCarl and the Country Builders Racing team are set for one final event in California this weekend, before heading back to the Midwest where they will spend the rest of the Spring and the Summer months.

“Bakersfield this past Friday night was a cool track, and for my first-time racing there it was a bit of a learning experience,” McCarl said. “Perris on Saturday night for whatever reason we timed in poorly and with the Outlaws it can really hurt the rest of your night.”

Getting the Country Builders/Ochoco West Lumber/Brown and Miller backed No. 88 entry timed in 15th fastest in time trials on Friday night at Bakersfield Speedway, ‘The Big Unit’ would put together a strong run in heat race competition that saw him score a fifth place finish and lock into the 35-lap feature event.

Gridding the field from the 15th starting position, McCarl would continue to acclimate himself to the 1/3 mile oval in Oildale, CA. Focused on gaining experience at the new track, McCarl would finish 19th in the feature.

Saturday night’s trip to Perris Auto Speedway would get off to a rough start for the Altoona, IA driver as he timed in 19thfastest in time trials and then finished eighth in his heat race.

Racing into the feature by way of the Last Chance Showdown, McCarl was able to try some things on the car for the feature event which he said seemed to help. While he was unable to get going forward, McCarl was pleased with some of the battles he did find himself in over the course of the feature event as he went on to finish 18th in the ‘A’.

“Outlaw races are always tough, but I really feel like this swing will help us as a team moving forward,” McCarl said. “Looking forward to running the KWS opener on Saturday before we head back to Iowa.”
