PETERSEN MEDIA: Back in the seat of his Cox Racing No. 31c entry, Justyn Cox spent his weekend in action at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night where he was involved in a wreck in the feature event, and on Saturday at the Placerville Speedway where he finished 10th.

‘It was not the best weekend, but I feel like we are all figuring the car out and getting better,” Cox said.

Timing in 11th fastest on Friday night, Cox fought a tight racecar in heat race action and actually spun his machine out trying to get things ironed out.

Making a trip to the B Main, Cox would pick up the win, and move to the feature event where he gridded the field from the sixth row. When the race went green, Cox was able to work up inside the Top-10 as he made spent most of his time running in the eighth spot until a caution flew.

On the double file restart, Cox was shuffled back to the 12th spot, and as he worked his way back into 10th, he simply made a mistake getting into turn three as he spun his machine out, resulting in other contact that ended his night.

“I just flat made a mistake in the feature on Friday night,” Cox said. “I looped it and then I got hit pretty good, and that was that for our night.”

Making repairs and heading to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, the Clarksburg, CA driver timed in third quickest in time trials, before finishing fourth in the feature event, and earning a spot in the redraw.

Pulling the eight pill, Cox lined up in the fourth row for the 25-lap feature event, and as the green flag waived, Cox went to the high side early in the event and lost a few positions.

Slipping back as far as the 12th spot, Cox was able to work his way down to the bottom of the speedway, where he was able to pick a few positions up, and finish 10th.

“I have always seemed to struggle on the Placerville Speedway cushion, and I just stayed up top too long,” he admitted. “I was able to get down to the bottom and pick up a couple of positions, and we ended with a Top 10. I have to thank Rodney Tiner, Jr, and Kyle Riley for all of their hard work.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Capitol Casino, Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, JRI Shocks, JRD Endeavors, NAAKE, LRB, Tim’s Hot Rods, Justice Brothers, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, MTFX Graphics, Konnected,  and College Cyclery for their support during the 2014 season.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-15, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-7

ON TAP: Cox will return to the Ocean Speedway on Saturday night and take part in the Johnny Key Classic.
