Cox 13th in Trophy Cup Finale

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in the 27th Trophy Cup over the weekend in Tulare, CA, Justyn Cox would race hard as he locked the C&M Motorsports entry into the Saturday night feature where he would end up 13th in the race and 18th in the final standings.

“I really have to thank Cody, Mandi, and the entire C&M Motorsports team,” Justyn Cox said. “They all worked really hard to get a strong car out on the track by the time Saturday’s feature rolled out. We lost a lap early with the leader’s torrid pace, but we had a much better car there a 13th place car. On a personal level it was super cool to lock into the Trophy Cup feature with my fifth different team.”

Thursday’s opener got off to a tough start for Cox and company as the Clarksburg, CA driver timed the Berco Redwood/Barry Lumber/Legacy Specialties machine in 21st fastest in time trials.

Running second in his heat, Cox would not earn the automatic transfer into the feature event and found himself in the first of the twin ‘B’ Main events. Coming from deep, Cox would work is way forward and find himself in the transfer position with a couple of laps left in the race.

With a gaggle of cars vying for the last transfer spot, contact would ensue knocking Cox up the track as he would end up 7th and bring his opener to an end.

Friday night got off to a bit of a better start for Cox as he would time in 19th fastest in qualifying time trials after going out early in his group. Lining up on the front row of his heat race again, Cox would get the jump on this night and race his way to a win.

Locking into the feature event, Cox would take the green flag from the 21st starting position as he would look to make a run through the field to better himself for Saturday night.

Only able to pick up a few positions in the feature event, Cox’s 19th place finish in the ‘A’ would line him up fourth in his Saturday night heat race.

Sitting right on the cusp of being in a feature event lock in positions, Cox would need to put together a good run in his heat race to secure a direct transfer. Racing his way up to third, Cox would end up 21st in points following heat’s and would be forced into the ‘B’ where he would line up sixth with the points inversion.

With a really nice piece underneath him in the ‘B’, Cox would waste no time racing his way into a transfer position, and actually took the lead in the ‘B’ briefly. Playing it safe, Cox would dip to the low groove and end up finishing second in the semi, and transferring into the 50-lap Trophy Cup feature event.

After a quick track work, a fast surface would greet the field for the opening laps of the feature event. Lining up 21st, Cox would find himself battling with some of the event’s top point earners as the leaders quickly reached the back of the pack.

While working his way forward, Cox would get lapped by Ryan Timms just prior to the race’s scheduled stop which would hamper him for final finishing position.

Continuing to do all he could despite being down a lap, Cox would race his way up to a 13th place finish and finish 18th in the final points.

“We passed a lot of cars in the feature event, but with us going down a lap early some of them were for nothing,” Cox said. “Had a lot of fun in the feature and am curious how high we could have gotten had we not got lapped. Again, big thanks to this team for their hard work all weekend long.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., Legacy Specialties, Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
