PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard his family owned No. 31c machine on Saturday night, Justyn Cox and his Cox Racing team opted to take their 360ci engine and take on the King of the West 410ci division at the Peter Murphy Classic on Saturday night in Tulare, CA.

“Peter Murphy worked so hard to put this event on, and we felt it was fitting to take part of the event, even though we were underpowered,” Cox said.

With 35 cars on hand at the Thunderbowl, Cox timed his Capitol Casino/Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet/JRI Shocks entry in 17th fastest, putting him in the third row of his heat race.

“We nearly made the inversion, and earned a front row heat starting spot, but we were happy with a lap that good,” he said.

With the track holding moisture through heat races, and being exceptionally fast, Cox’s lack of horsepower hampered him a bit, as he finished in the sixth spot, and was forced to make a stop in the night’s B Main event.

Lining up on the front row of the ‘B’, Cox jumped out to an early lead, and went on to earn the win, transferring to the feature event, and being the only 360ci entry to do so, solidifying his team the 360 bonus in doing so.

On the second attempt at starting the race, Cox got caught up in a pile up that resulted in a damaged nose wing, and a broken right-rear bleeder, but Cox elected to stay on the track, and restart from the back of the pack.

With the right rear being off on air pressure with the broken bleeder, Cox worked the bottom as his machine was a handful with the damage, and hit his marks, and make laps.

When the race came to a close, Cox crossed the stripe with a 15th place finish.

“I can’t thank everyone who worked on this car all night,” Cox said. “We were pumped to make the feature event, and even with a little bit of damage from a wreck, we still had a decent night. I hadn’t raced in a couple of weeks, so it was nice to get back out there. I have to thank Rod Tiner, Jr, Zach, and Kyle for their hard work. I am looking forward to continue to work together as the season moves on.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Capitol Casino, Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, JRI Shocks, JRD Endeavors, NAAKE, LRB, Tim’s Hot Rods, Justice Brothers, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, MTFX Graphics, Konnected,  and College Cyclery for their support during the 2014 season.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-10 Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-5

ON TAP: Cox will be in action on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway, and on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway.
