PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting two nights of action in over the weekend with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Justyn Cox’s weekend would be highlighted by a second place run on Sunday night at Petaluma Speedway aboard the Van Lare Motorsports entry.
“It was a good, fun weekend of racing,” Justyn Cox said. “I made a late mistake on Saturday night in the family car and gave away what I think might have been a top five, and on Sunday I had a really good night with Van Lare Motorsports and came home second.”
Saturday night at Placerville Speedway kicked off a busy weekend of action for Cox. Timing the Michael David Winery/Five Window Beer Company/Cranked Naturals entry in third fastest in his qualifying group, the Clarksburg, CA driver picked up a third place finish in heat race competition.
Taking the green flag from the 10th starting position in the feature event, Cox would come to life after discovering a torsion bar was going bad on him early in the night. On a slick Placerville Speedway surface, Cox had his elbows up and battled his way up into the sixth position late in the race.
Getting his right rear over the edge of the speedway in the waning lap, Cox would slip back to 10th as time was running out. Getting back into a rhythm, Cox would pick up a couple of positions to tally a seventh place finish at the stripe.
Sunday night he made the trip to Petaluma Speedway for more Sprint Car Challenge Tour action, as he took the controls of the potent Van Lare Motorsports No. 5v machine for the second time this season.
Timing in quickest in his qualifying group, Cox played it safe in his heat race as his 4th place finish locked him into the Dash based on his qualifying time.
Going from fourth to third in the Dash, Cox would take the green flag from the second row for the 35-lap feature event. Settling into fourth as the action packed race came to life, Cox would see a restart hamper him a bit as he would fall as far back as seventh.
On a slick and extremely racy Petaluma Speedway surface, Cox would carve his way back forward into the fourth spot where it looked like he would finish until contact in front of him changed the complexion of the race.
Lining up behind Chase Johnson for a green-white-checkered finish, Cox would admittedly spin his wheels and allow Johnson to get away as Cox capped his night with a second place finish.
“Thanks to my guys for the work on Saturday night and thanks to Jim and Annette, Zach, Joel Jr, and Rodney for the strong effort on Sunday night,” Cox said. “Really looking forward to getting some more races in the 5v.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
