Cox 5th at Marysville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: After his opening weekend of action last week in Chico, CA, Justyn Cox and company wanted to try a different car before Placerville Speedway’s opening night and decided to make the trip to Marysville Raceway. Things seemed to go well for Cox and company as the Clarksburg, CA native picked up a fifth-place finish in a non-stop feature event.

“We rolled out a different car last week, and it felt great at Marysville,” Justyn Cox said. “We timed in well, and in the feature, I didn’t want to take a lot of chances as we were feeling things out, but I was happy and am excited to get things going at Placerville Speedway on Saturday.”

Timing in second fastest in time trials amongst the 24 cars that checked in for the Marysville Raceway regular season points opener, Cox would line up fourth in his heat race aboard the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/MDW backed No. 31x.

With a very stout Cox-Berco Racing entry underneath him, Cox was able to turn in a very strong performance in his heat race that saw him charge forward and pick up the win.

By way of his victory, Cox earned a spot in the redraw, where the six-pill lined him up on the outside of third row for what turned out to be a non-stop 25-lap feature event.

With a bit of rain falling on the surface prior to the feature event, the track would be a little narrow for the feature event. Working on the fifth spot for several laps, Cox would finally take the position on the 10th circuit.

Once in fifth, Cox would then turn his attention to reigning track champion, Billy Wallace who ran ahead of him in fourth. Getting alongside Wallace a few different times, Cox would think better of putting his machine at risk, and settled back into fifth where he would go on to finish.

“Knowing it was more of a shakedown night, I played it smart in the feature,” Cox said. “Big kudos to Rodney Tiner Jr and the guys for really putting a fast car on the track. Hoping the weather plays nice so we can get up to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.”

The Cox-Berco Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, Trex, Adrian Blanco Jewelers, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2

ON TAP: Cox will be back in action on Saturday night as he is set to take part in Placerville Speedway’s season opener.
