Cox 6th at Toller Classic
PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox and his Cox Racing team headed to the Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night, where Cox picked up a sixth place finish in what was dubbed as the Sherm Toller Classic.
“It was pretty wet and heavy all night, and we were just a step behind the track it seemed,” Cox said. “We had a decent car, but lapped traffic hurt us a little and we slipped back a little towards the end of the feature.”
Going out early in time trials, Cox timed the Capitol Casino/Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet/JRI Shocks No. 31C machine in ninth fastest, putting himself on the front row of his heat race.
Taking the green flag, Cox jumped into the lead, and went on to pick up the win leading flag to flag, putting him in the fourth row of the feature event.
On a track that stayed fast, Cox battled a racecar that was a little on the tight side, but managed to hang in a tight pack inside the Top-Five.
Working in dense lapped traffic, contact with a lapped car saw Cox’s nosewing come dislodged, ultimately making a tight racecar even more tight, and tough the maneuver.
In the closing laps, Cox settled into the sixth position, where he would stay as the race came to a close.
“We missed the setup just a touch, but still had a great run going,” Cox added. “We ran inside the Top-Five, and battled all race long, but lapped traffic got a little sketch, and once we lost the nose-wing, all we could do was hang on.”
