Cox and C&M Motorsports Sixth at Cotton Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making the trip to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Friday night for the annual Cotton Classic with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Justyn Cox would have a strong outing as he capped his night off with a sixth-place finish.

“We had a pretty good night,” Justyn Cox said. “We got up to fourth, and I think we could have finished on the podium but a late restart kind of shook things up and we got shuffled back.”

With timing and scoring issues arising at the track, Sprint Car Challenge Tour officials opted to use the Chili Bowl Draw format for racing action on this night.

Lining up seventh in his heat, Cox would gain valuable passing points as he worked his way forward and tallied a fifth-place finish in his heat race. Moving into a qualifier, the Clarksburg, CA driver lined the Berco Redwood/Barry Lumber, Inc./Legacy Specialties entry up on the pole.

Losing the drag race into turn one and two, Cox would slip back to second, where he would finish, and ultimately find himself in the fifth row to kick off the 30-lap Cotton Classic feature event.

Gridding the field from 10th, Cox would slowly work his way forward as his car would get stronger as the laps clicked off. Jumping into the top-five, Cox would make a late race move to take over the fourth spot as he chased after to lead trio.

A yellow on the 25th lap would bunch the field back up, and unfortunately break Cox’s momentum but it would put him back on the leaders bumpers with just five laps left in the race.

When the green flag replaced the yellow, Cox would not get the jump he had hoped for, and it cost him a couple of positions. Slipping back to sixth, Cox would be unable to get the two positions back as he closed his Cotton Classic out with a sixth-place finish.

“Late in the race we really got moving and I hated to see that caution with five to go,” Cox said. “Unfortunately, I didn’t get a good jump and we lost a few spots, but still happy with how the car felt in the feature. Hoping we can continue to run well as he check into Petaluma Speedway for another SCCT event. Thanks to Cody, Mandi, and everyone that helps this C&M Motorsports team out.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., Legacy Specialties, Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Cox and C&M Motorsports will get right back to action with the SCCT as they head to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night.
