Cox Battles Back to Finish 15th at Forni Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the C&M Motorsports No. 7c machine on Saturday night in Placerville, CA, Justyn Cox would overcome a mid race trip to the work area and record a 15th place finish.

“We were just a tad off in time trials, and not winning the heat put us a little deeper in the starting line up,” Cox said. “We were off to a decent start and we started to get going until a little contact got us over the ends of the cushion and I had to make a trip to the work area.”

A total of 46 cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to take part in one of the tracks’ crowned jewel events. Timing the Moorefield Construction/Berco Redwood in fifth fastest in his qualifying group, Cox would line up in the third row of his heat race.

Coming to life in the 10-lap preliminary race, Cox would make some nice moves and work his way into second. Making a run at the lead, Cox would come up short, though his second-place finish was good enough to lock him into the 25-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 12th starting position, Cox was forced to be very patient as he was in dense traffic from the race’s onset.

Getting up into 10th by the race’s halfway point, Cox was starting to come to life until contact two laps later sent him over the edge of the speedway and he would take a trip to the work area.

Able to make the call, Cox would restart back in 23rd and half just 12 laps to work his way back forward.

With traffic still tough to get through on the ultra-slick racing surface, Cox would get back to 15th when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.

“Our results really don’t show how good our car was on Saturday,” Cox said. “Cody, and MF really do a great job and we were fast. Thanks to Cody and Mandi for supporting me, and getting the car back to the track despite having a newborn at home.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., Legacy Specialties, Inc. PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
