PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox would get another weekend of racing in with the Canadian based Rutz Racing team as they would be in action in Chico, CA and Placerville, CA and capture fourth and fifth place finishes respectively.
“I can’t say enough about this Rutz Racing team and Doug Rutz,” Justyn Cox said. “To stick around for another week and race again in California says a lot about this team, and I am thankful for the opportunity and to run really well both nights.”
Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway, Cox opened the night up by timing the Rutz Racing No. 8R machine in second quickest in qualifying time trials.
With a new format in play at the speedway in 2019, Cox would move into the Fast Dash where a third place finish would place him seventh on the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event.
On a track that offered a pair or grooves in one and two, and a nice strip of moisture on the bottom of three and four, Cox would use patience as he inched his way forward.
Patiently working his way around the Silver Dollar Speedway quarter mile, Cox would get up into the fourth spot late in the race and close in on his Rutz Racing teammate, Tony Gualda.
Looking to maybe steal the final spot on the podium, Cox would end his night with a fourth place finish.
Traveling to Placerville, CA on Saturday night for the track’s second points event of the season, Cox would be hungry to back up his opening night win from just a couple of weeks ago.
Getting his night started off well, Cox would time the No. 8r machine in third quick in time trials, before avoiding a near disaster at the start of his heat race. Able to avoid carnage, the ensuing restart saw the Clarksburg, CA driver get out front and leave the field in his wake as his win put him in the Top-8 redraw where the one pill put him on the pole for the 25-lap finale.
Coming to green, Cox would hang with Kalib Henry until he lost power in the middle of turns three and four and coasted to a stop with ignition issues.
Heading to the work area, the Rutz Racing team was able to make repairs and send Cox back down the ramp where he would tag the rear of the field.
It was on.
Cox would have his elbows up as he worked his way forward around the immaculately prepared Placerville Speedway surface. Able to go high and low, Cox quickly worked his way back into the mix as the race drew to a close.
When the dust settled on the feature event, Cox did a remarkable job of salvaging his night as he picked up a fifth place finish.
“It was definitely a bummer to have issues at the start of the main,’ Cox added. “We had a great car for sure. I don’t know that we had the car to win, but we were good enough to come through the field and finish fifth. Again, big thanks to Dough Rutz and his team for sticking around and racing with me another weekend.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
