PETERSEN MEDIA: Though heavy rain created and rough and tumble surface on Saturday night at Cottage Grove Speedway for the 6th Annual Marvin Smith Classic, Justyn Cox made sure to have his spurs on as he got his elbows up and simply dominated the $4100-to-win feature event aboard a Rutz Racing entry.

“Man, it feel pretty awesome to win this deal,” Justyn Cox said. “We had a great car all night long, and even though there was some close calls on the surface, Doug Rutz and his guys put me in a great position and it is cool to win this race in such a storied car in the Northwest.”

With track crews working tireless Saturday to get at least one night of racing in with a weather cell threatening the event, Cox got the night started by timing Rutz machine in third fastest in his qualifying flight.

As his qualifying time locked him into the Dash as long as he transferred through his heat race, the Clarksburg, CA driver would take it easy as continued to adapt to the Cottage Grove Speedway surface as his fourth place finish put him in the Dash, which he would go on to win.

Getting the jump in the 41-lap feature event, Cox looked extremely fast out front, as he manhandled his machine around the speedway. With no real smooth line on the track on this night, it would be a gutty effort with cars bouncing around all over.

Continuing to blast through lapped traffic at a torrid pace, Cox would actually see Justin Sanders pull up alongside of him in the race’s closing laps, and that got him back up in the seat as he got back to pushing the envelope.

Lapping up to fourth, Cox would cap a very impressive showing by claiming the Marvin Smith Memorial feature event.

“It was a demanding track, so that makes this win a little bit more special as well,” Cox said. “Big thanks to Doug and all his guys for their hard work. To win, and have Tony Gualda finish third in Doug’s other car is also really cool, and shows how strong this team is.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
