PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night just one week removed from claiming his second consecutive Mark Forni Classic, Justyn Cox would make a late bid to capture his third win of the season but on this night he would take the checkered flag with a second place finish.
“It was a pretty decent night,” Justyn Cox said. “We timed in well, and put ourselves in a good position in the feature event we just came up one spot short. It is great to pick up a couple of nice finishes before doing some 410ci racing with the World of Outlaws.”
Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in second fastest, Cox would find himself in the second row of his heat race. With the front row starter in front of him having issues, Cox would then find himself on the front row as the green flag dropped.
Jumping out to the lead, Cox would work his way around the ¼ mile bullring as he went on to capture the race win and punch his ticket into the redraw where the three-pill put him in the second row for the 25-lap feature event.
Settling into fourth when the race came to life, the Clarksburg, CA driver would take advantage of a handful of early restarts as he would work by Tony Gualda to take over third before taking advantage of an accident that took out second running Tanner Carrick as he then found himself in the runner up position.
Once in second, restarts would soon not favor Cox as Forsberg would gap him initially and force him to play catch up as they got into traffic. Able to reel him in amidst traffic, an untimely caution would give the leaders clear track and seemingly hamper Cox.
As the race came to a close, Cox would make one attempt in turn three and four and as he realized his move wasn’t going to clear Forsberg he checked up to avoid contact and settled for second.
“We had a really good shot there at the end, I went for it and knew it was going to crash him and maybe us if I stayed in it and that’s not how I race,” Cox said. “I checked up and ran a very close second. It is good to be clicking and have things go our way.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
